Privacy Policy

The short version. The Temple Browser app collects no telemetry and sends us nothing about your browsing. This website (templebrowser.com) keeps an anonymous count of downloads and runs an advertising pixel so we can measure whether our ads work. That's the whole of it. There are no accounts and we never ask for your personal details.

This Privacy Policy explains what data is involved when you use the Temple Browser website at templebrowser.com ("the Site") and the Temple Browser application ("the App"). Temple Browser ("Temple", "we", "us") is built and operated by an independent developer. If anything here is unclear, email temple-browser@proton.me.

1. The App collects no telemetry

The Temple Browser application does not phone home. It contains no usage analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising or tracking SDKs. Your browsing history, bookmarks, open tabs, downloads and settings stay on your device.

No account required. You can use the entire browser without signing up or giving us any information.
Optional device sync is end-to-end encrypted. If you link two devices, your data is encrypted on your device before it leaves it. We cannot read it, and there is no account behind it.
Ad-blocking, Tor and per-tab VPN run locally on your machine. We do not see the sites you visit.

2. What the website collects

The marketing website is a separate thing from the App, and it does use a few limited services:

Anonymous download count

When you start a download, the Site increments a private counter. It records only that a download happened: a single running total. It does not store your IP address, identity, or anything that could identify you.

Advertising pixel and conversion measurement (X / Twitter)

So we can tell whether the ads we run on X (formerly Twitter) actually lead to downloads, the Site loads the X Pixel, provided by X Corp. It may set cookies and collect technical data such as your IP address, browser/user-agent, page visited, and the X click identifier (twclid) that X adds to the link when you arrive from one of our ads. When you download after clicking one of our X ads, we report that as a conversion to X, including the twclid, so the download can be attributed to the ad. This data is processed by X under X's Privacy Policy.

Hosting (Cloudflare)

The Site is hosted on Cloudflare. As with any website, your connection (including your IP address) is necessarily seen by the host to deliver the page, and Cloudflare may keep short-lived security and abuse-prevention logs. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

Fonts (Google Fonts)

The Site loads web fonts from Google Fonts. When those fonts load, your IP address is visible to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Downloads (GitHub)

Download files are hosted on GitHub Releases. When you download the App, the request is served by GitHub, which may log it. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.

3. Cookies and local storage

The Site uses a small number of cookies and browser-storage items:

_twclid: stores the X ad click identifier for up to 30 days so a later download can be attributed to the ad that brought you. Set only if you arrive with that identifier in the link.
X Pixel cookies: set by X for advertising measurement, as described above.
blt-lang: a local-storage value remembering your language choice (English or Spanish). It never leaves your browser.

We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles ourselves; the only third-party advertising cookies are X's.

4. Your choices

Block the pixel. Any ad blocker, browser tracking-prevention, or Temple Browser itself will block the X Pixel, in which case the only thing the Site records about you is the anonymous download count (and the server still won't have anything that identifies you).
Clear cookies at any time in your browser settings.

5. Data we do not collect

We do not sell your data. We do not collect names, email addresses, or payment details through the Site (there is nothing to buy and no account to create). If you email us, we will of course see your email address and message, and use them only to reply to you.

6. Children

The Site and App are not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site changes. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here.
